What should you look for in a diaper bag? Well, to begin with, it doesn’t necessarily have to be a designated diaper bag—practically any bag can hold diapers, wet wipes, snacks, changes of clothes, a breast pump, milk bottles, formula, toys, and did I mention snacks? There are a few factors we recommend considering before you settle on a bag. You might even discover that you already have a suitable diaper bag in your wardrobe! But here’s what to look for if you are searching for one:
1) Structure: The best diaper bag is one where you can put it down on the floor, or a table, and it sits upright enough for you to open it with one hand while the other is busy holding your baby or toddler. This is especially handy during baby poop gates. The last thing you need is to be fiddling with a floppy bag in desperate search for the pack of wet wipes.
2) Wipeability: Your bag should be somewhat wipeable. Canvas or nylon is great for that, but so can leather, as long as you don’t go with a light coloured suede bag, you should be good. Of course, be prepared that the diaper bag you pick might get some stains inside and out, and that’s ok as long as you aren’t too precious with it.
3) Ease of opening: A tote, or a bag with a very simple zipper or clasp, is ideal. Because again, the last thing you want to be doing when your hands are already quite full, is to struggle with the simple task of opening said bag.
